In February 2008, Tripura was ranked to be the second among the north eastern states in their implementation of the Persons with Disabilities Act, 1995. The Tripura government has framed Persons with Disabilities (Equal Opportunities, Protection of Rights and Full Participation) Rules, 1997 based on the above Act. The state has a population of 3,671,032 and an estimated 58,940 persons with disabilities as per the 2001 census.
The Department of Social Security and Welfare is the wing under the State Government of Nagaland that is responsible for the schemes for persons with disabilities. The state has a population of 1,980,602 and an estimated 26,499 persons with disabilities.
